Our Patrons

Surrey Care Trust’s Patrons are invaluable assets actively helping to break the Cycle of Disadvantage for thousands of people across Surrey by helping the Trust to raise its profile and secure valuable funds.

Our President is Sir Adrian White, founder and owner of the company Biwater. In 2015, he was knighted “for services to international trade and development”. He became a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey in 2017.

Michael More-Molyneux – Lord Lieutenant of Surrey

HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, has lived in the county of Surrey all his life. Loseley Park has been the residence of the More-Molyneux family for over five centuries.

Over the years Michael More-Molyneux has built links with many organisations and businesses in Surrey. Since his appointment as Lord-Lieutenant in 2015 he has become involved with an increasing number of charities and many good causes across the county and considers this a very important part of his role.

David Hypher, OBE – Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Surrey

Following his career in the investment business, David Hypher has dedicated his time to charities and local communities across.  Surrey. David was High Sheriff of Surrey for 2005/6 and in 2007 he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey. In 2012 David was made an Officer of the British Empire for services to charities.

Dr Julie Llewelyn – Former High Sherriff

Originally from Worcester, Dr Llewelyn has lived and worked in Surrey for over 25 years. She is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and has specialised in research and clinical work to help people living with diabetes. For the past 20 years, she has worked in various voluntary roles for charities in Surrey and has been a board member of the Community Foundation of Surrey since 2013, and is currently a Vice President. 

In 2021, Dr Llewelyn became the eight-hundredth High Sheriff of Surrey and the tenth woman to hold the role, her theme for her year in office was Every Child Included, with the focus on education. In March 2022, Dr Llewleyn, as High Sherriff gave all our volunteers a special award recognising their amazing contribution over the past 40 years.

Sir Richard Stilgoe, OBE – Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Surrey and co-founder of the Alchemy Foundation

Sir Richard is a British songwriter, lyricist and musician, and broadcaster who is best known for his humorous songs and frequent television appearances. His output includes collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Peter Skellern. Sir Richard is also notable for his charity work and fundraising. In the 1980s he founded the Alchemy Foundation which is funded from his royalties from the American productions of Starlight Express and The Phantom of the Opera. In 2012, he was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his extensive charity work.

Andrew Wates, OBE – Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Surrey and Chairman of Wates Plc

Andrew was formerly Chairman of Wates Group Limited, having originally joined the company in 1964. Founded in 1897, Wates Group is one of the largest privately-owned construction and development companies in the UK with 2,000 employees and an annual turnover of c.£1billion.

Currently, Andrew is Vice-Chairman of FBN International, but has also held the role of Chairman of the Institute for Family Business until December 2010. He is also Chairman of Gambado Ltd, Chairman of the Grants Committee of the Wates Family Enterprise Trust and is on the Board of Myriad Energy Solutions.

 

I am delighted to have been a part of Surrey Care Trust for several decades and to have witnessed the evolution of this fantastically useful organisation. To be part of the trust is to be at the heart of our Surrey community, with every action, every donation, every hour volunteered making a real difference to people’s lives.
