The Rituals team contributed their time, expertise and creativity to a range of practical projects designed to enhance the garden and deliver sustainable, long-term benefits for the community. This included repurposing staging, generously donated by Squire’s Garden Centre in Reigate, for the garden’s new nursery, developing new wildlife areas, transforming the outdoor woodworking space and managing pond maintenance. These improvements support Gateway in creating further opportunities for educational sessions, outdoor activities and hands-on learning for the people we support.
Sustainability was at the heart of the day, reflecting the shared environmental values of Rituals and Gateway Community Garden. The team embraced opportunities to upcycle and repurpose existing materials, helping to reduce waste and demonstrate how resources can be given a new purpose through practical, community-led projects.
The day highlighted the positive impact that can be achieved when corporate and community organisations come together around shared sustainability goals. Through their contribution, Rituals has helped enhance Gateway Community Garden, strengthen its environmental features and create spaces that will continue to benefit the community for years to come.
Milly O’Ryan, Assistant Manager, SCT Gateway Community Garden, said:
Welcoming new people into the garden is always such a rewarding experience for our community and the Rituals team were brilliant. They arrived with incredible enthusiasm and positivity and their commitment throughout the day was fantastic. Their time with us has made a real difference, helping us to begin developing our new nursery space and progress other important projects across the garden. Corporate volunteering days like this are incredibly valuable to us. They bring additional skills, fresh ideas and practical support into the garden, giving our staff and the people we support the opportunity to see projects come to life. It was also wonderful to see sustainability at the heart of the day, with the team embracing every opportunity. We had a wonderful day working together and would be delighted to welcome the Rituals team back to Gateway Community Garden anytime!
"I would absolutely recommend making use of volunteering leave. It’s a valuable opportunity to step away from routine work pressures, connect with the wider community, and do something genuinely meaningful."
