A New Chapter for a Swingbridge: Maggie G Joins Surrey Care Trust

We're thrilled to announce a new addition to its Swingbridge Community Boats fleet: the Maggie G!

The arrival of the Maggie G marks the continuation of a long and proud legacy of the Swingbridge Community Boats. This special event was marked by a formal launch on the River Wey, attended by Guildford MP Zoe Franklin and the High Sheriff of Surrey.

Previously operated by Woking Recreational Boating for the Handicapped, the boat is named in honour of the late Margaret Gammon, a former Woking Mayor known for her tireless work and compassion for the community. The Surrey Care Trust will now carry on her original mission, providing accessible and joyful trips on the River Wey.

“We are incredibly proud to continue the legacy of the Maggie G and the wonderful work it has done over the years…

This new addition to our fleet means we can reach even more people and provide them with the unique joy of being on the water. It perfectly aligns with our mission to tackle social disadvantage and help people build confidence.

Surrey Care Trust CEO, John Downing.

The Maggie G, like the other boats in our ‘fleet’, is specifically adapted to ensure everyone can enjoy a cruise. Equipped with an outboard motor, meaning shallower waters can be accessed, and other accessibility features, the boat will be used to expand our environmental conservation activities for:

  • Community groups
  • Families and individuals
  • Older people
  • Those with limited mobility or other special needs

These journeys offer a vital opportunity for people to connect with nature, find a sense of calm, and build new relationships. SCT is grateful for the opportunity to continue the Maggie G’s journey and looks forward to the many new memories it will help create on the River Wey!
